Managing Interrelated Trading Activities with User-Defined Strategies
Complex trading problems can be characterized by attributes such as the need to interact with multiple trading
partners and market places, trading in multiple units, and interrelated trading activities with temporal constraints,
and a need for specialized knowledge. Bidding in auctions, bidding in continuous double auctions, and negotiation are
considered as three fundamental trading methods commonly used for complex trading problems. A trading system may
exercise one or more trading methods to perform trading activities which include a finite set of bidding and negotiation
tasks. Many trading activities being carried out today are concurrent and interrelated. However, available solutions to
manage concurrent and interrelated trading activities are inadequate due to the lack of a concrete framework for
developing trading systems.
To address these issues, we propose the development of a trading strategies modelling language (TSML) which allows trading
strategies to be captured at three levels:
- At the highest layer, syntax and semantics of the language will be addressed. One of the main issues will be the
synchronization of interrelated trading activities.
- At the second layer, realization of trading tasks and trading engine will be addressed.
- At the lowest layer, micro aspects of the trading strategies will be investigated.
